Domestic Animals - Animals That Have Been Domesticated
Pets are small or big animals that we keep at home for companionship. Whether it is a cat, a dog a bird or even rodents, they become almost members of the family. The animals of the farm are also considered as domestic, as the horse, the cow and even the hens.
House pets can provide a utilitarian purpose as well. Such as the guard dog or the cat which hunts rodents, they can be only for their song, as birds or simply for amusement.
Pets often have a positive effect on people, we watch at them acting with amusement and curiosity. Cats and dogs are emotional and like being petted and playing, they are as children for many.
The rodents, turtles, and lizards are often used as pets, especially by the interest which the children have for them. Some pets require an aquarium or a pond, as the turtles because they need to bathe and to swim.
Fish are not really useful but they offer forms and colors of a wide variety, and it is often the reason that they're used as house pets. They are not noisy and often require very little mainenance.
The domestic birds are very popular for their singing and colors, as the finch, the parakeet... Some are very noisy as the cockatiel or certain parrots who shout or whistle and can become unpleasant.
Insects are rarely used as pet. Some people like the big spiders as the tarantula and will keep them in a terrarium, but it is rather rare. Certain insects are raised in terrarium to serve as food in another pet which eats only alive prey for it's food.
Your pet has to have a good food to maintain it's health and live as long as possible. Pre-prepared pet foods are available and are specially made for your pet such as hamster food, little treats for your cat and the other foods made specifically for them will be usually better than table scraps for its health.
Many other small animals can be used as a pet. Some have ferretts, racoons and rabbits as pets. Naturally certain wild animals cannot be domesticated because of their wild instinct.
