The Felines - Big Cats Carnivorous Mammals

Big cats are carnivorous mammals of varying size and skill depending on the species. The house cat is a small feline and the lion is an example of a big cat. They have a soft hair the length of which varies according to the climate age and species.

Big cats are carnivorous, thus hunters. They eat the other animals which they stalk alone or in groups. They often have a sleek body which makes them very agile and fast.

The legs of big cats are adapted to capture their food. They have retractable claws which are bent back and very effective to catch prey which make up their primary food source. The teeth of big cats are designed to cut meat and allow for quick disposal of their prey.

Certain big cats are solitary animals and live alone except for the purpose of mating as with the lynx. Others live in groups as the lions whose dominant male is the leader and is the breeder of the pride. A pride often attacks bigger animals that they share.

Big cats in wild their natural environment eliminate the weak or sick animals which are usually easy prey. They play an important role in the food chain. House cats in spite of the fact they are domesticated and do not need to hunt for food hunt by instinct and eliminate mice, field mouses, rats or other rodents that they find.
