The Lemur - A Ring Tailed Primate in Madagascar

The lemur is a mammalian animal relative of the family of the monkeys which lives exclusively in Madagascar. The word lemur wants to say " phantom ".

This small animal has a pointed nose, a thick fur, long hooked fingers and a tail longer than its body and decorated white rings.
 

The lemur lives in group, it is an end climbing and champion with the race. He lives especially on the ground but builds also a refuge in the trees.
 

He can jump of a 10 meters height, which enables him to travel of tree out of tree without going down on the ground.

He is herbivorous and he is active during the day. He nourishes sheets, buds, small fruits and sometimes of small mammals.

Towards mid-April arrives the period of coupling of the lemurs and the small ones are born mid-September end-August. But 40% of small will not survive. Its enemy is the eagle.

The lifespan of the lemur is 7 years and 14 years in captivity!
